Although, Corinthian columns orginated in Greece, they were seldom used in Greek architecture, rather it was in the height of Rome that the flowery, more feminine Corinthian column reached their height of popularity. The Corinthian column is almost always fluted. Even the flutes of a Corinthian column may be enriched. In proportions, the Corinthian column is similar to the Ionic, but often is made more slender. It stands apart by its distinctive carved capital.
